CONGRATULATIONS!!
You have been accepted to NGCSU!
What do you do now?
| NEXT STEP 1 | NEXT STEP 2 | NEXT STEP 3 | NEXT STEP 4 |
NEXT STEP #1: PLACEMENT
The letter you received lists me as your advisor, but I'll be your temporary
advisor, not your permanent advisor. The NEXT STEP is to contact
Melissa
Lach, the Admin. Professional for
Learning Support
Services, and schedule an appointment to take the appropriate
COMPASS tests for
your situation: Math, English, and/or Reading. (Some
Preparation Guides)
Once you have taken the COMPASS test, we will have a better idea of the classes you will need to take:
|
COMPASS ENGLISH |
Less than 70, take LANG 0099 | 70 or higher, take ENGL 1101 |
| COMPASS MATH | Less than 40, take MATH 0099 | 40 or higher, take MATH 1101 or MATH 1111 |
| COMPASS READING | Less than 81, no required course . . . yet |
NEXT STEP#2: ADVISEMENT
If you have tested out of all Learning Support requirements,
then you will be given directions on
how to change your major and you will be
sent to the appropriate department for your advisement.
If, however, you still have to satisfy some Learning Support requirements, you will sit down with an advisor--we collaborate often in Learning Support, so you might get Ms. Lach, Ms. Henderson, or me--and we will discuss a schedule and some alternatives for the upcoming semester. During our conversation, feel free to include work or other scheduling conflicts, preferences for times or days, and any other information you can think of. When you leave an advisement session, you should have:
NEXT STEP#3: PRE-REGISTRATION
A day or two before you are supposed to register, go to the "CLASS
SCHEDULE" page and make sure the classes you wanted are still available.
If they are not, you will need to see if the alternatives we discussed are.
If they are not, you will need to create a new schedule for yourself. Feel
free to come to campus and talk to us about the schedule--we will help as much
as we can. If you wish to be more independent and self-reliant, then
create a different schedule, but make sure the times and days will not conflict.
If you are still in Learning Support, you MUST take the Learning Support
class(es) required.
NEXT STEP #4: REGISTRATION
At 7:30 a. m. on the day you are supposed to register, you should access your
BANNER
account, go to the "REGISTRATION" menu, choose "Add or Drop Classes," select
the correct semester, enter your Alternate PIN, answer "Yes" to the next page,
and enter the CRNs for your schedule. Once you have 12-15 hours, you are
finished registering! You can double check your schedule by clicking on
"Return to Menu" and "Student Schedule." You might need to change the date
for the view, so enter the date for the first week of classes in the box in the
top right of the page (MM/DD/YYYY). All that remains is to pay your
tuition and fees and then attend classes in the new semester!
