What is mathematics?  What does a mathematician do all day?  To help students better understand the answers to these questions, students will embark upon a tenure-track "job" in a mathematics department.  Mathematicians are evaluated based upon three categories: teaching, research and service.  Students will "teach" by making presentations in class.  They will "research" by writing mathematics papers and submitting them to class journals for publication.  And they will "serve" by peer reviewing journal articles, organizing conferences and being journal editors.  The class is divided into two mathematics-intensive universities: MUSE & MUG.  Students will earn status at the end of the semester based upon their entire body of work.  The categories are: Full Professor (Tenured), Associate Professor (Tenured), Associate Professor (Not Tenured) and Assistant Professor (Not Tenured, Not Promoted).

Beautiful Mind Journal

Theme: This journal is dedicated to the outstanding work of John Nash and publishes a wide variety articles especially about the most innovative applications of game theory to real world strategic settings. Occasionally, high level mathematics such as calculus or expectation theory are necessary to analyze games. This journal seeks papers that demonstrate how to utilize these mathematics topics effectively in game theoretic settings.
Other Topics: There are two ways to simulate games: digitally using some software or programming language or with repeated human trials using pencil-and-paper to record results.  Papers that analyze the experimental side of game theory are encouraged.  Especially good are simulations that play some of the games posed in conference presentations, journal articles or in class.

Editor: Zach Cave

BHJ Boars Head Journal

Theme: BHJ is dedicated primarily to the military and strategic game theory models so well investigated and popularized by von Neumann and others during the 1960's. Of particular interest to the journal are articles relating to the Guerillas vs. Police model and the Strategic Missile Defense model (both in the text, Chapter 5). Other macro models (mutually assured destruction) or micro models (small unit engagements, counterterrorism) are also welcome.
Other Topics: BHJ will also consider articles that organize, categorize, and solve mathematical games using basic tools from the course.  Especially good are proofs of important course results and solutions to interesting new mathematical (non-applied) games.
