Professor Poitevint's Pet Peeves

These are the things that drive me crazy!  Please refrain from doing them.

· Coming to class late - I consider this to be rude behavior

· Cell phones or beepers left on - also please don't have any devices in your ears!

· Bringing food to class - unless it's a medical emergency

· Leaving class to go to the restroom, unless it's an emergency

· Sleeping during class - I'll just go ahead and mark you absent

· Coming to my office right before class - I want to get to class on time, too!

· Coming up to me and asking questions when I'm trying to start class - please come to my office instead

· Continuing to carry on social conversation when tests are being distributed

· Packing up books before I've dismissed class

· Sitting in class without book and notebook open, i.e. not taking notes when I'm teaching – students will be asked to leave and will be counted absent

· Putting on make-up in class

· Bare stomachs and excessive cleavage

· People who smoke immediately before coming into my office

· Bad language will ABSOLUTELY not be tolerated (and I don’t like the “s” word that ends with “ks”)

· Turning in papers (including extra-credit) without folding them and putting name and class on correct side

· Cell phones and laptaps on desktops - please put both away during class.

Absolutely NO Ipods to be used during tests!  And here's a new one:  Pajama bottoms are not appropriate attire for class!

And the number one thing that drives me crazy:  Talking when someone else is talking.  All personal
conversation should cease when the teacher or another student is talking to the class.

I don't want this to sound too negative so here are some things that I LOVE:

· Students who pay attention, ask questions and come to class prepared

· Students who come by my office occasionally so I can get to know them

· Students who take advantage of the math tutorial center and/or my availability for help

Please let me know if there are things about the class that concern you.  Come by my office and I'll be glad to discuss ways I can address them.  I hope the class is enjoyable for all of us.
