Math 2008

All assignments and test dates will be listed on this page.  You are responsible for checking it frequently.  Each assignment has a point value.  These points will be included in your participation grade.  Due dates can be determined based on the days of the week that each class meets.

All assignments will be graded on content as well as grammar. Be sure to put the assignment number or title, your name and the date due on each assignment.  Assignments (not including journal entries) should be typed in 12-point font and double-spaced.  Please read grammar notes on my homepage before you start working on assignments.

Drop/Add Students:  Students who add the class after we have already met are responsible for finding out the information concerning the course via my website and for getting caught up on the material they have missed.  Please come by my office if you need any help with this.

Final exams:  At NGCSU, no one is required to take 3 final exams in the same day.  If you have 3 and need to re-schedule mine, just talk to me and I'll be glad to work with you.

E-mail messages:  Please include in any message you send me the class you're in (e.g. "M2008A" or "T-Th M2008").  Thanks so much!

Alternate credit:  Here's a way you can earn points (10) for your participation grade.  Check the cultural events calendar and attend a program.  Then write a brief reflection on what you attended and turn it in to me along with the program (if available) from the event. E-mail me if you have any questions.  Write-ups must be submitted within one week of the event.

Assignment 5:  Go to www.georgiastandards.org.  From there click on "Mathematics" at the top and read the "Mathematics Program" description.  Then skim the "Executive Summary" (read the parts applying to your grade level).  Finally, choose the grade level of your concentration and click on the standards.  Read the standards dealing with Number and Operations.  Be sure to also read the process standards and terms at the end.  If possible, you may watch some of the videos under "Frameworks."  In your write-up, be sure to tell which grade level you focused on.  Give your impressions concerning the standards (not just a summary of what's there.)  Were they what you expected?  What are the implications concerning this class and your future classroom?   Don't forget to be specific.  This should be no more than one page - you can adjust margins if needed.
