I graduated from North Georgia
College & State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of
Science in Special Education. I despised student teaching, so did not pursue
teaching after that experience! After graduation I traveled a bit, and then
began working for Lumpkin County Head Start as the Health Aide, responsible for
scheduling appointments to the Health Department for immunizations, dental
visits, check-ups, etc., and typing a monthly newsletter addressing health
issues. It was while working at Head Start that I discovered I enjoyed
maintaining files (student health records) and using computers (they were
fairly new at the time)! I decided to learn more about computers and enrolled
at (then) North Georgia College
to pursue an Associate of Secretarial Science Degree (they previously had a
Secretarial Science Degree at NGCSU). After completing that degree I began
working at CENTURY 21 North Georgia
Realty as their Secretary. I worked there until I became pregnant with my son,
Zachary, and decided to stay home for as long as I could. After almost two
years at home, I applied for the position of Secretary in Placement Services
(now referred to as Career Services) under the directorship of Ms. Mary
Carmichael. The three years that I worked for Mary are considered some of the
most memorable and favorite of my years at NGCSU! After Mary retired, I
continued to work under the directorship of Ms. Beverly Kirchner for the next
10 years (also wonderful times) before deciding to give Special Education one
more chance! I also wanted to pursue my Masters Degree and decided to enroll at
North Georgia
College and State University
in the Masters of Education Degree and graduated in December of 2003. While I
was attending graduate school, I began teaching in Hall County.
My first year, I taught at Lanier
Elementary School as a
Resource Teacher. The next year, I worked part-time in the mornings at Lanier Elementary School
as a Resource Teacher and then in the afternoons at Chestatee High School
in a Self-Contained classroom. While I enjoyed my year at Chestatee, once
again, I decided that teaching in the public school system was not for me. In
fact, the two years that I taught special education were probably the loneliest
and saddest years of my life! When a position in Learning Support became
available, I jumped at the opportunity to “come back home” where I always had
the support of the wonderful “family” at North
Georgia College
and State University! I have been in the Learning
Support Program since 2003, and have never been happier!
I have been married to Bill Lach
since 1983 and we have a son, Zachary who is currently enrolled in his first
year at NGCSU. My husband and I are very
active members of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church where I teach Sunday school,
serve on the Altar Guild and the Choir. My husband, Bill is a Scuba Diving
Instructor and teaches through Continuing Education. I enjoy reading, all kinds
of music, practicing my mandolin, working out, and scuba diving in warm water.
I also enjoy traveling and consider Mexico one of my favorite places to
visit (and scuba dive). Bill and I would like to retire in the little pueblo of
Akumal, Mexico some day!
