I graduated from White County High School as valedictorian of my
class in 1995. Then I attended Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, GA, where I received my Associate's degree in 1997. From 1997 to 1999, I was a student right here at North Georgia College and State University. In 1999, I received my Bachelor's degree in sociology and began the Master's of Public Administration degree. After completing the MPA program successfully in August of 2000, I began teaching computer science courses.

My family and I moved into a new house in May of 2004, but I have lived in Cleveland all my life. My housemates consist of my parents, my sister and our furry little dog, Precious! We also have a farm cat, named Hobson, a.k.a. Hobbie, who is a "housecat-wannabe." In addition to our regular animals, we have three head of cattle, Josie, her baby Little Bit, and J.R.

I also have a brother, a sister-in-law, a niece, a great-nephew, and a great-niece who will be born in October.  However, since I feel entirely too young to consider myself a great-aunt, I'll consider the word "great" to be an adjective! Ha Ha!

I am interested in disability issues for obvious reasons, and try to keep up with the latest happenings.  I'm not touché about disability, and although many people are afraid to ask the obvious questions, I don't mind.  I have a neuromuscular disorder called spinal muscular atrophy.  It's one of the diseases recognized under the umbrella of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (you know, the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon?), but it isn't a form of MD in and of itself.  It does not cause paralysis, loss of feeling, etc. like a spinal injury does.  So when I broke both legs at the same time a couple of summers ago, I totally felt it!  Ouch!  But it causes the muscles to weaken dramatically slowly over time.  If you are really curious and want to know more or want to get involved in the effort to find a treatment, you can find out more at the Families of SMA web site.

The most important things in life to me are my faith, my family, and my friends. When I'm not teaching or otherwise working, I like to occupy my time by spending it with those I love. I also love to write, draw, design t-shirts and work with watercolor pencils.
