5.  Discuss Classroom management using The First Day of School, by Harry Wong. PowerPoint with major points (30')

6.  Go over rules and consequences on computer use.

Assignment:

  • Type the following assignment in Word. Create five rules for a class that you think you might teach in the future. (1st grade, 8th grade, 12th grade English).   Then type a sequential list of consequences which go from a warning to ending with a referral to the principal.  Also include a "severe consequence" statement. Lastly, briefly describe your reward system. Save this as Rules.
  • Write a well-composed welcome; save in Word as Welcome
  • Write a description of what you will be teaching in your class; save this as Class Description in Word.
  • A description of the special projects you plan for the semester; Save in Word as Projects.
  • Sketch out on a piece of plain paper where you will put each of the parts of your newsletter or brochure.

Assignments

Using the links provided for webquest, find a webquest that interests you or that you could use in your future classroom. Work on it, and be prepared to give a summary or description of it in class next Tuesday, Sept 30. Write a brief summary in Word to turn in.   You do not have to complete the entire webquest, but you will have to spend some time on it to see how it works. Print out any part of the webquest that you complete. (Allow at least TWO HOURS to complete the major portions of the webquest)

  • Design the four pages of your teacher website on paper.  You should plan out exactly what you want to say in each section so that when you come to class on Tuesday you can begin keying in the website.  You can also look at Athena Hill's website to see a well-planned website. Assignment

Decide on a subject that you will cover using a Power Point Presentation.  Make sure you choose a topic that is covered in the Georgia Performance Standards or the QCC's.  The presentation will only be 5 minutes long, so this would not be a full lesson.  Plan the presentation on paper.  Then decide on a 30 second movie you could do to go along with the Power Point.  Write out the script for the movie. We will create the movie on Tues Oct 21 (you can do this at home also.)  You will have some time in class on Tuesday October 23 to create the presentation, but most of it you will do outside of class. You will create this presentation and present it in class as if you were teaching your future classroom.

3. Portfolio assignment:  Write the opening page of your portfolio in Word.  Write a paragraph about why you took this course at NGCSU and a paragraph on why you would like to be a teacher. (if you are not going to be a teacher, write a paragraph about how technology will be useful in your chosen profession). Then write a one or two sentence description of each of your projects.  You will have to add your group project and your Inspiration project afterwards.  Do not include any backgrounds, WordArt, or clip art--just text!  Save on your flash drive and bring to class on Tuesday.  You may look at other portfolios to get ideas:  Athena Hill, Molly Burns, Elizabeth Smith, Rhett Webb, Bea Nelligan, Shandi Tribble, Evelyn Ramirez. (You can look at these also to see examples of a group project)
